Bringing your dog
You are welcome to bring your best friend along to Gränslandet. If it’s a dog, you must keep it on a leash!
Dogs that are unleashed can cause great damage to nature. Even though your dog is on a leash, you must keep well away from reindeer herds. Frightened reindeer can stray far away and lose valuable energy. This also creates more work for the reindeer keepers.
From 1 March to 20 August, dogs in Sweden must be restrained from running loose in grounds where there is game. During other times, dogs must be prevented from harassing wildlife, other than when hunting. The corresponding period in Norway for when dogs are not allowed to run loose is 1 April to 20 August.
In the Swedish mountains, dogs must always be kept on a leash when there are reindeer in the area, under the provisions of the Reindeer Husbandry Act.
