Skiing
On skis you can reach far into Gränslandet. But remember that skiing in the fells requires planning and the right equipment.
On the Swedish side...
… there is a cross-marked winter trail through Gränslandet. It partially follows the snowmobile trail and goes all the way from Fjällnäs or Tännäs to Grövelsjön. The winter trail also follows parts of the Södra Kungsleden Trail. Around Idre and Grövelsjön there are also several shorter day trips on marked trails.
If you have the right knowledge and experience to ski off-trail, the possibilities are endless.
On the Norwegian side...
… the winter trails are only marked for short stretches. But if you are experienced and looking for challenges, a long skiing tour in Femundsmarka’s unmarked mountain terrain is a fantastic winter adventure. A more comfortable way of experiencing winter in Gränslandet is to stay in one of the Norwegian huts and make day trips.
Prepared ski trails and slalom slopes...
… are available on the outskirts of Gränslandet around Grövelsjön, Idre, Fjätervålen and Funäsdalen. On the Norwegian side, trails start from Elgå and Røros. Why not combine slalom skiing and training for the Vasaloppet or Birkebeiner ski races in the wonderful winter terrain in Gränslandet?
